The HVAC industry has higher than average rates of suicide and depression. With mental wellbeing estimated to cost employers over £42 billion annually, Aermec is a strong advocate in fostering good mental health which improves productivity and retention.
Lucy Hutchins our health, safety, environment & quality manager is also a mental health first aider. She is passionate about helping employees look after themselves and is backing this month’s World Suicide Prevention day on September 10th.

Mental health is a serious issue in the HVAC industry with high rates of stress, demanding working conditions, long hours, emergency call-outs and often tight deadlines which can lead to anxiety and depression.
“Taking care of HVAC plant and equipment is important but so is taking care of mental health. Employers have a vital role to play by creating supportive environments and normalising talking about mental health,” says Lucy.
“Mental health is a very human issue that can affect jobsite safety, productivity and home life. We can become a much stronger and healthier industry by highlighting mental wellness in the workplace.”
The theme for this year’s World Suicide Prevention Day is ‘Changing the narrative on suicide’ and encourages companies to implement strategies and actions to help prevent suicide.
