Aviagen Turkeys part of the Aviagen Group is one of the UK’s leading poultry companies supplying premier breeding stock for a wide range of market sectors. The company supplies day old breeder chicks/poults to its customers around the world as well as the UK market. Aermec chillers are a critical part of the infrastructure and maintenance planned as a quarterly activity is paying dividends in helping to maximise their efficiencies.
Challenge
To maintain environmental conditions for breeding poults by investing in process chillers and a maintenance schedule as part of the company’s overall asset management strategy.
Solution
Two Aermec NRB process chillers were specified for use in the hatchery. NRB Free-Cooling models are outdoor units with high efficiency scroll compressors, axial fans, external copper coils with aluminium fins, and a plate heat exchanger. They are also fitted with a Free-Cooling coil and are used when the cooling request continues into the winter months, or in any case when the outdoor air temperature is lower than the temperature of the return liquid from the system.
When used in free cooling mode the fluid is cooled directly by the external air and the compressors can be completely deactivated, delivering notable electricity savings. A glycol-free version is available for all those applications where the use of glycol is not permitted.
Result
As part of the specification the chillers’ coil have been specially coated to maintain efficiencies, performance and increase their longevity. The coils are also cleaned on a quarterly basis to ensure optimal performance levels are maintained.
